It’s a cliché, but I’ve never thought about it so much as during our Stay Home hiatus: The days are long, but the years are short.
We’re in our 7th week of home-schooling, home-playing, even home-vacationing. It means being together all day long. That has its drawbacks. But I’m taking all the good parts—having so much family togetherness—and putting that in my collection of memories.
In busy times and slow, we’re the most powerful force in our children’s lives. I’ve heard from numerous parents that the bright side of quarantine is finally having more time with their kids. I second that and I’m trying to enjoy the opportunity to slow down.
We are a force in their lives unlike anyone else, and as these Groundhog Days drag on, I never stop being amazed at how photography freezes the years as they quickly pass. I’ve had the distinct honor of watching families change over the last ten years as a family photographer, from their nuptials to a house full of kids!
It’s so lovely to take a look at their changes and it’s impossible not to tear up a little at the reminder of their first session compared to today. We’ll be back to our busy lives soon enough, and the years will keep on flying by. But today, remember that you’re everything to your children.
And I hope the day is long!
In celebration of how quickly those years fly by, I’ve curated over a decade of photos. Going back and looking at the beginning of these families from newborn sessions, chubby baby sessions, middle child and third child additions have been a joy. I hope to present more family galleries through the years during my 10th anniversary year. To begin with I give a glimpse into life with three boys with the Fick Family and the Reznik Family. So much happiness and love!
