If your family is up for a short road trip, the Sunflower Patch at Coastal Ridge Farms in Picayune, Ms. is the family shoot for you! Sunset is magical in the acres of sunflowers and zineas that bloom twice a year, once in the Spring and Fall. The best part is you get to leave with as many fresh cut flowers as you can fit in your home-brought bucket. This is a great location to let you kids explore, run around and be kids!
Where: Coastal Ridge Farms located in Picayune, Ms. It’s approximately a 45 minute drive from New Orleans through Slidell and over to I59 N and into Picayune. There’s plenty of parking on the farm. You will have to buy a ticket for entry. It’s $15 per person for anyone over the age of 11.
Best Time for Pictures: The late day sun is a must for this session. It highlights the beauty of the flower fields and will elevate your pictures. I only hold 30-minute sessions during the final hours of daylight so you will have beautiful results. This unfortunately means you might be driving home in the dark but it’s worth it!
What to wear: You can do the sunflower patch casual or dressed up! Vibrant colors and patterns can work nicely or stay in a neutral palette of blues, blushes and browns. Shoes might get a little muddy so don’t be afraid to keep things simple or even grab those cute rain boots with a tutu. Blue jeans, overalls, denim jackets always look nice on the farm as do big puffy dresses.
What to bring: Make sure to bring a bucket and some shears so you can cut a flowers for you home. There will be water available at the farm if you want to add a little to your bucket for the ride back. Bug spray is a good idea to have on hand since it will be prime bug hour when we shoot. Snacks and water are also nice to have on hand. There are bathrooms available.
