The Hermann-Grima House
The courtyard at the Hermann-Grima House is a quiet oasis in the French Quarter. It provides a rare opportunity in this often-crowded part of town to have private, lush courtyards all to yourself, so you can take one-of-a-kind photos. It’s a perfect way to pose for portraits in the French Quarter (especially with little ones) without having to worry about cars or tourists weaving through your pictures.
The exposed brick, blue shutters and peeling paint all make for a unique background. The surrounding courtyard lined with orange trees and roses offers with plenty of room to run around. Photo sessions are usually scheduled in the morning so it’s easier to park on the surrounding streets, and the neighborhood is quieter and more family friendly. Located on St. Louis Street, the property bumps up to Broussard’s Restaurant on the next block. A photo permit is required.
The historic home was built in 1831 and is a Federalist style home with Creole adaptations. Although we will be staying mostly in the courtyard, there are daily guided tours of the home and stables, which are still intact.
Many thanks to Delilah and Talulah for glowing in their yellow dresses as we explored the Hermann-Grima House!
