Couturie Forest in City Park
If your child loves throwing on their rain boots and exploring the woods, Couturie Forest might be an exceptional location for your family photos! This is a natural escape in the middle of City Park and home to the highest point in New Orleans, a daunting climb of 43-feet above sea level.
The forrest is filled with winding dirt paths that lead to magical stick forts and makeshift tree houses. There are several bayou overlooks for spotting alligator eyes and jumping fish. And if you turn just the right corner, the occasional tree swing awaits. This is a great place for families who aren’t afraid to get a little dirty and pets are welcome to explore with you!
The entrance to the forest is just off of Harrison Ave. near Marconi Dr. with an easy parking lot near the rust colored bridge leading to adventure. Mornings and late afternoons are a great time to photograph for that pretty light and don’t forget to pack bug spray just in case. I would say this is the perfect place for boys, but I happen to know several girls who wouldn’t hesitate to jump in a mud puddle too.
Many thanks to Spencer and John for showing me the coolest spots in Couturie Forest!
