LOCATIONS

One of the first questions I ask a family is where would you like to take pictures? I want your session location to speak to who you are as a family, offer an ease to your experience, and allow me to capture a moment in time.

It’s a tall order.

That’s why I put a lot of thought into my annual New Orleans Family Photography Location Guide . Here are a few of the top locations. Some celebrate the iconic neighborhoods of this city, and others are breathtaking green spaces that allow your child to run free.

Finding the perfect spot that fits your brood can be tricky. I’m here to help you find the right place for your family. In the meantime, here is a little inspiration.

HISTORIC HOMES

Manicured gardens, beautifully landscaped gardens dotted with fountains and brimming with Louisiana plant life. Green shutters, wrap-around porch, butterfly garden and a fabulous wood fence. This describes just a few of the unique qualities of the historic homes such as the Pitot House, Beauregard-Keyes and Longue Vue gardens that we are lucky enough to wander.

UNIQUE NEIGHBORHOODS

Uptown, Bywater, Algiers Point, Lower Garden District, Bayou St. John and the French Quarter. Each neighborhood has a unique style and look that can make for the perfect backdrop. Walking a block or two of the Bywater can reveal a unique setting that appeals to the the inner artist in all of us. For the French Quarter, early morning sessions are best in the quieter residential side of the quarter. Cornstalk fences, weathered walls and those Commander’s Palace awnings are just a few favorites in the Lower Garden. And the Magnolia Bridge across Bayou St. John at sunset is stunning.

YOUR OWN HOME

No place is more unique to you than your home. Being able to photograph children in the house where they’re growing up is priceless. It offers a comfortable and intimate space for the entire family. Some of the greatest memories happen naturally within your home.

PARKS

Audubon and City Park both have the gorgeous old Oaks with falling moss. As well as manicured gardens and wild overgrown fields that offer a sense of the great outdoors nestled in the big city. For a more urban park I recommend Crescent Park or for a less travelled area West End Park and Old Spanish Fort.
